07:00·AS IT HAPPENED
They booked on a Tuesday in the rain, eighteen months out, after Priya’s mother walked the walled garden and went quiet.

The day itself ran long and easy — vows under open sky at three, cocktails on the lawn while the light turned, and when an hour of rain arrived at seven, dinner simply began. The hall had been dressed since morning; the rain became weather, not an event.

They left at midnight under sparklers, and came back for breakfast in the garden the next morning. The house dog attended both.

“It rained for exactly one hour. Nobody noticed — the hall was already glowing, and the estate just… absorbed it. That’s what you’re paying for, we realised. Slack.”
